About Sisters Fry Bread

Launched in 2010, Sisters Fry Bread derives from humble beginnings! It came from a need for sustainable income to provide for their families as sisters Elisha Big Back (Northern Cheyenne Nation) and Celia Payer (Ho-Chunk) attended school. Strapped for cash, the sisters tapped into their creative resourcefulness and applied their most delicious and profitable skill, making fry bread and selling it to the community.

Sisters Fry Bread started out modestly selling fresh bread at the Portland farmers markets and on the waterfront out of a cooler, eventually growing their customer base by networking within Portland’s Native student groups and community nonprofits at events around the city.

Fry bread became a very popular way to fundraise! The sisters soon saw their product grow in demand and so they quickly learned the ins and outs of vending their product.

Sisters Fry Bread has partnered with many organizations and community groups. They are proud to be exclusive fry bread vendors at many Pow Wows and are well-known in the Native American community. Because of this tribal network, their delicious fry bread, and their uniquely crafted menu, they have built a sizeable customer base.

Sisters Fry Bread was created as a means of survival but has since turned into a journey built on countless memorable moments filled with laughter and lots of love.

Sisters Fry Bread looks forward to continuing to serve their regular customers as well as gaining more by catering your next event!

A nation is not conquered until the hearts of its women are on the ground. Then its finished; no matter how brave its warriors or how strong their weapons.
